let Make My Baby Smile customize one for you!

I’m having trouble feeding my baby, I need some advice.

When we bring our baby home from the hospital we are filled with a range of emotions from excitement to joy and all the way to fear.

One of the most common challenges a new mother faces in feeding their child. Initially, many of us question our own mothering ability, but this is not the case at all. Feeding a baby is like anything else; it’s a learned skill.

Both newborns and older babies go through different cycles of how they eat. The first thing to remember is that they will never starve themselves, so although we want to tend to the issue as quickly as possible, it’s important to not FREAK OUT! The first thing to understand is if it is a behavioral issue or a medical issue. If it’s a medical issue, we obviously want to get to the pediatrician or lactaction consultant as quickly as possible and allow them to address the medical issue at hand. If it’s a behavioral issue then we need to create a plan to address the issue. Babies don’t eat for a variety of issues such as:

• They aren’t hungry.
• They don’t like the flavor of what they are being fed.
• They aren’t being fed at the right times.
• They have gas.
• Their belly is full and they need to have a bowl movement before eating further.
• And the list goes on…

Here at Make My Baby Smile we take the time to understand the specific situation and help provide a strategy that will have your little one eating in no time. There is no one size fits all strategy here; it really does come down to understanding the specific needs of the individual child.

I recently trained my 1 and 2 year old with the help of Rochel. In a matter of 3 days I had my son falling asleep on his own in his crib. She checked in on me several times to make sure things were going smoothly. She also advised me on how to stop the bottle feedings. They have both transitioned to zippy cups for all their liquid. This in turn has created better eating habits and no more milk in the middle of the night. Her schedule was right on and helped create structure for my boys. Thank you so much for all that you have done for my family.
